My bosses brother in law offered to sell me a gun. He collects, and has a pair he's looking to get rid of, and convinenetly, I'm looking for a CCW gun. The choices.

    Glock 23 in .40 for $425
    Walthers P99 in 9mm for $500

    Thoughts?

Glock 23. I find it fits in my hands quite comfortably and also prefer the Glock trigger over the DA/SA setup of the Walther. Not to mention $75 will buy a lot of practice ammo.

Go Glock, the .40 is a good ccw round and the g23 has pre-ban mags available. Plus get a new barrel and you have a .357Sig!

Why do that when you can just buy a 9mm barrel for it?

I like the Walther better. Make sure you get a German made one though.

because a 9mm barrel in a .40 glock isn't reliable enough for carry.

Are the asking prices fair for the guns? Both are relatively new with under 200 rounds through em. He also cleans them about once every three months, or following a trip to the range.

$425 is fair to good for a well kept Glock. $500 for a well kept P99 is a so-so to poor deal. $530 will buy you a brand new one.

    Walther ....

The .40 is just a bit too punishing to shoot for my taste, and you get similar stopping power from the 9mm.

I have a Walther PP (.32), and a PPK (9mm), and I love them -- I've shot thousands of rounds through both with no problems.....EVER....

    edit: sorry, didn't see your "x 19" part until just now -- its a 9mm kurtz (9 x 17)

They're both German police-issue surplus guns. Awesome carry pieces, especially for the money -- they can be had from $250 - $325 roughly.
