Help me decide which gun I should use for self defense:

    Beretta M9
    Remington 870 (26" barrel)
    Bushmaster AR-15 (20" barrel)

Both the 870 and AR-15 have long 26" and 20" barrels respectively, so they may be unwieldy for indoors/home defense use, but then again everyone says a shotgun is the best home defense weapon, but even one with a long 26" barrel?

My gun safe is NOT in the same room as where I sleep, so i'm thinking I should get one of those quick access handprint pistol vaults for under my bed to keep the M9, and then if SHTF I could use that to fight my way to the other room and get my shotgun or rifle.

Handgun but I'de keep the shotty handy as well.. as I sit here I got the P99 sitting by me here at my desk, 590 under my bed, SAR1 leaning next to the desk
if I hear a noise the P99 is what I grab and bring with me. If the dogs start barking and I go investigate to find out its just a friend coming to my front door easier to tuck the p99 in my waist band then the AK or Shotty :o

I prefer pistols for home defense.

And at least 15 shots should cover any situation

Of all that you list, the shotgun would be the best choice, except for the 26" bbl.

The AR at 20 is also too cumbersome to be really handy around the home. And anyways, it would probably penetrate all your walls and go screaming into your neighbor's house.

So that leaves the pistol. 15 rounds of 124 Gold Dots should be sufficient for HD.

I'd have to agree with that. Just use the pistol.

I'd recommend whatever weapon you train more with. I have a 870 in the corner, but have MUCH more handgun training, so in all likelyhood I'd grab my 1911.

And someone might have mentioned this, but the pistol is also easier to conceal while you're checking things out.

Your neighbors might be alarmed if they see "someone" walking around your yard at night with the silhouette of a shotgun or an AR.

Easier to investigate things with the pistol in your hand, or quickly stash it in your waistband/pocket if it turns out to be your grandma.

Depends where you live. Around here, people would get pretty alarmed if they saw an AR in your hands.

For now, the pistol. You really should get an 18" barrel for that 870, tho.

Shorter barrel for the 870.. shotgun over pistol for home defense, ALWAYS.

    out of those beretta.

Maybe pick up a cheapo mossy shotgun used for pretty cheap. That way you have a good self defense shotty, and can still have the 870 for clays/hunting.
