Hey all, I'm looking at purchasing an Eotech sight for my Ar15 here soon. I'm just curious...I see many different models, and the most expensive is the 552 I believe.

What advantages does the top model have? If it is just on a gun that I target practice with and play around with, do I really need the top model?

Just don't want to waste my $ on something I don't need, but then again, I DO want something that is high quality.

    Thanks!

552 and 551 are the night vision models, if you don't have night vision, just get a 512 or 511. i have a 512 and prefer it to the 511 b/c it takes AA batteries that can be recharged.

Good to know...no night vision here, and no plans of adding it in the near future :) The AA batteries would be nice also, so it looks like a 512 would be a good choice.

    Thanks!

Theres supposed to be a version coming out soon that will take cr123 batteries. I'm holding out for that one even though it will probably be incredibly expensive.

Wow what else does it do that will make it so much more than the $350 ones?

Has ARM QD mount. Has a built in riser. And takes CR123.

    :sad2:

Only reason I want one, is because it takes CR123. I would like to limit the variety of batteries I need to buy. :hsd:

AA Alkaline batteries work the best, and it's rated at 1200 hours so I'm not too concerned with rechargables, but buying 2 AA's > buying 2 N's. Weight might an issue with the 511 and 512 if you're looking for a lightweight build. I believe the 512 is almost a pound (14 ounces or so with batteries)

554 is the part number. It also does not come in black. The military has decided that the next generation of battle rifles will NOT be black so everything will be desert tan or OD green.

Colored guns just look like toys to me for some reason.

Yeah. Who the fuck ever heard of a yellow gun.

Although I think that some of those M4gerys that have od green parts on them are kinda cool

Heh, I know who makes that stuff!

That's a Cav Arms MKII lower and handguard set.

I used to have that exact same AR, except it was in green.

    It was pretty cool.

They're very economical and the people who make them are pretty cool.

While the model thats been exhibited has been in tan I believe it was an eotech guy on arfcom saying it would eventually be available in black as well.
