Sorry if this is a re... didn't see anything..

Now, I know that there isn't a sole winner to this one but this question is often asked and I kind of see it like this.

    U.S.A.
    Japan
    Brazil

Those three are the big MMA countries and all seem to produce champions and very strong fighters of all weight classes.

Funny thing is possibly the greatest welterweight ever is Canadian...French Canadian at that but are there more Canadians even worth mentioning? (forgive me if that sounds rude)

Russia possibly has the GOAT. - Any others that are consistent?

I'm tired and just got home from the gym so I'm done.. lol.. Any thoughts? :wavey:

America. I'm counting those who are born of other nationalities but trained here, because often the economy and sponsors here in America is what allow fighters to reach their potential. All the best BJJ guys are here (many Brazilian but moved here), best boxing guys are here, best thai guys can be brought in, and the wrestlers are top notch.

produces and births are 2 different words.

what hilary said, america has the capital/power to create the best fighters but birthin talent Brazil seems to have a keyhold on great fighters

The netherlands produces a lot of great kickboxers, but nothing to speak of for mma.

For mma it's a toss between Brazil and US.

I think Russia would have a bigger roster of top fighters if mma was more established there.

Hughes has 7 title defenses, GSP has 2.

It's a little early to be considering GSP the GOAT welterweight.

I really don't think any nationality or 'race' is more adapted to fighting than any other. It has to do with the economy and the social environment that grows around fighting that has to do with it more than anything else.

At the moment Us, brazil and japan produce the best fighters because the MMA scene is well established there, but that would probably change if MMA was well established in other countries as well.

So its not really a case of which country produces the best fighters.

If that's the case MA should replace country with GDP then.

The US is the best breeding ground of fighters and it's far easier to make an earning out of it and for people to realize their potential.

I read in an article a few months back that there's an endless amount of Brazilians with the talent to reach the top echelon of MMA but social and economical conditions there make it extremely tough. Bustamante and one of Anderson's managers (not Soares) stated that there's so much talent in their country only to have them go back to a menial job partly due to these circumstances.

    EDIT
Is there a particular reason why the Dutch dominate HW kickboxing?

You make a good point. Even though he took Hughes' lunch money Hughes was so dominant in his division/era. So... we'll see what GSP brings...

Granted I haven't seen anything more than that jab fest with Buentello, but I have doubts that 'baby fedor' is going to do much.

it's Brazil, but sometimes after a long flight, the fighters don't really have the energy to perform and there's a time delay, and the training camps sometimes go wrong and the judges are sometimes biased as well as the referees. Brazilians always win or they are winning until the other guy gets a lucky shot.
