neither. you can get an XPS One or an iMac (or an all-in-one HP) for not that much more.

But Choosing between those two, which do you think would be better? I'm also trying to see what most people compare. I will look into other suggestions, though. I'm just curious about these two.

    Gateway for me...
    i7 > C2Q
    4850 >> 3650
Has firewire if that matters to you

Same everyting else but RAM (not sure how many available expansion slots there are on the Dell and the Gateway has a definite type-o in that section)..... Unless you do video encoding I don't know if there is much else the i7 performs too much better with to justify paying more. Unless you game the 3650 will be plenty of GPU power... If you do a lot of VMs the extra RAM would help.... What is the purpose of the computer?

Both will get on the internet as the have a 56k modem, but neither has a floppy drive...

Video Editing will be one thing I will def be doing. I checked on gateway.com and on best buy they say you can up the ram to 16gb. I believe I will be going with the gateway.

Any other ones on BestBuy that you see which are pretty koo but around the price range? Monitor-wise what would you roll with? I'm thinking of having dual-monitors. Will that video card support them? Will I have to buy any extra accesories to set that up?

I'm looking for dual monitors anywhere in the $100 - $220 price range / each. Whatever has the most bang for it's buck. For instance if I could get an acer for $140/each or get a Dell monitor which is only a bit better for $200/each, I would go with the Acer.

the 3 links posted here is probably the best
there's another core i7 HP, but it is more expensive than the gateway, and the specs isn't really all that better

all 3 will support dual monitors.
the dell i linked has 1xDVI, 1xVGA. the 2 you linked has 2xDVI.
you don't have to buy anything else. the monitors you'll be buying should come both with DVI and VGA cables.

i hate acer. i'll let someone else help you with that.

do you have to go with bestbuy?
i remember seeing that gateway for $600+ at slickdeals a few weeks back.

Oh I'm not saying I have to go with Acer I was just giving an example. Like, I'm not looking to spend a shit ton on a monitor which is just a little bit better than one that is like $50 cheaper.

That refurb looks like it would be a hell of a deal. Shipping would jump it up 800+ but still... Not bad at all. I just like to go with new stuff, though.

Do you prefer one big monitor or do you prefer dual monitors?

    depends
i would prefer dual monitors for work (coding, documents)
for picture editing/movies/games,... i'd rather spend money on a big quality one.

your budget can get you two cheap 22" monitors.
note: never pay above $250 (each) for TN panels

to be honest, I don't really care much about the brand on monitors.
they're all the same, just compare the specs.
if i have to play favorites, I'd go with Samsung.

Yeah, Samsung has always been my favorites as far as monitors go, actually. Do you see any cheap 22" with decent specs at BestBuy? I'm about to leave and go there now. I'm not very good when it comes to monitors, so I figure you will probably know more. I'll go with duals. Even though I will be doing picture/video editing... I figure I could put messages and stuff like that on one screen... work on the other.

    So far I'm seeing:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8448584&type=product&id=1188438406684 But that stuff is an outlet item, whatever that is.

I'm also seeing these guys but I've never even heard of this brand. It's in the top rated section and they're cheap as heck, too.

Those are just cheapy ones im looking at but if they do good...

if it's an outlet item, it could be stock that they want to dispose off or its a refurbished item,.. ask them.

    Hannspree owns Hanns.G
    they are so-so

    of those 3, i'd go with the Hannspree 23" because it's 1920x1080
2nd choice would be the acer
