I've been using weightgainer with 620 cals and 52 g protein per serving (3 and a half scoop). I've started working about about 2 months ago and made some nice gain on it. Should I switch to whey protein instead? I'm worry that I may not get in enough cals and wo'nt be gainning much. What's your view on both products? Which is more efficient?

i'm overweight so i prefer my calories to come from food so i go with regular whey to supplement my protein needs, if you're skinny and have probs getting enough calories then the weightgainer is probably the way to go imo

i know stuff like muscle milk has a pretty high saturated fat content.

What I do is buy chocolate whey, and when I want a calorie-dense shake I take a scoop and a half of whey, two cups of skim milk (any milk is good), and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter.

    54g protein
    45g carbs
    17.5g fat

    570 calories

way less saturated fat than muscle milk or something similar. Tastes great, healthier than pre-made weight gainers, and you can drink it on an empty stomach and get full -but- if you aren't hungry you won't have too much trouble or discomfort drinking it.

Also, that way you have some raw whey that you can take hwen you just ate a lot of pizza or something to supplement your protein intake, without having to add more carbs and fat (which you won't need after eating pizza :mamoru: ).... Leaving yourself with Muscle Milk or something as your only protein supp is lame.

I have both, I take the weight gainer post workout, and the regular whey at other times.

If you need calories you can mix other stuff into your protein like skeltor said. Today's protein shake had 4 ounces of low fat egg nog, 4 of 2% milk and 2 scoops of vanilla protein. Worked out to 400:3:32:60 macro wise. I've made my shakes with ice cream before too. Mmm good. :big grin:

if you want to add some calories to a shake, try safflower oil, its odorless/tasteless.

Can't the body only metabolize ~30g of protein an hour?

I've heard 50 ... but I'm pretty sure it would depend on the person.

The longer the protein sits in the intestines, the more that is absorbed. I don't think that any limit, in absorbtion, has been reached even though the protein will be passed before it is all absorbed. ( when in high amounts )

add some sugar to your protein shakes if you want to make it a weight gainer. that's all that's in those things.

    :fawk: :o

The last month or so...that's the only protein powder I use (if you don't count Wraath's EAA).

And to make each container last longer my servings are as follows...

    3/4 cup egg whites
    3/4 cup lactose free milk
1 and 1/2 scoops MM (instead of 2 scoops per seving)

    416 calories/ 14g fat/ 20g carbs/ 49g protein

I use this as well. 1 cup a day in my shakes. Extremely expensive though:hs: It's like 6 dollars a container here.

I have ten pounds of powered egg whites and the only thing I can choke them down with it oatmeal + peanut butter. I need some good recipes for this shit quick or I am going to be eating this stuff for the next five years.

What does that do to the consistency of the shake? Can you tell that it is in there?

I know you're kinda carbophobic so you could try to use almond milk such as Almond Breeze in your shake. Take the non-sweetened kind. It's pretty low-cal (40 cals/cup) and contains healthy fats, 1g out of 2g of carb is actually fiber too. The texture is much better than that white water they call skim milk.
