    Alright,

So I've found that I don't make great decisions in isolation, so I figured I would ask those with a better understanding of the world, and future trends. I'm trying to figure out an answer to the following question: if I could work at any .com or similar company, then which one should I choose?

I'm a young Software Engineer, and I've been out of school for a few years now, so I think I can start going for the big leagues. I'm a typical Engineer (quiet, socially awkward, etc), but I like to think I'm good at my job. I think its time for me to take the next step in my career.

you probably don't stand a chance with the first three unless you've done something pretty fantastic

Given that corporate loyalty isn't anywhere near what it used to be anymore, I would have to say a combination of several of the companies listed over time. Just chase the trends from place to place working under contract, learn how to be a tough negotiator and be able to sell yourself and your skills, and you'll come out on top.

Being under contract usually puts you under more control of your situation.

I think my first choice would definitely have to be Microsoft. They have so much money to pay their employees. All of them do, but I feel that Microsoft would have the most benefits/fun to work there.

After working in the hosting industry, I can tell you first hand that you'd probably get sick of it really quick. I worked with some guys who used to be at rackspace (I was at a different hosting company) and they said it was kind of a shitty environment; and it was not much different where I was. The stress level and amount of BS you have to put up with isn't really worth it, IMHO.

Google, Microsoft (Bing) or Facebook. Mostly in their BI/DWH team. I'd love to data-mine their information even more! I  data.
