I'm looking for a place to train in the lower mainland, preferably as close to south surrey as possible. I'd rather not make the hour long trip, even longer in rush hour, to train at universal or gracie barra, but if i can't find anything decent thats what i'll end up doing. I'm more interested in finding a good bjj school.

So far the suitela and marcus soares gyms seem the closest. Has anyone heard good things about those places? Also are there other gyms in the area that i might be overlooking?

I'm going to go around and do the free classes but i want to make sure i try all the right gyms.

    Thanks in advance

yeah, revolution martial arts looks pretty good. Price is a little steep though.

Anyone trained there before or heard anything about it?

    I'll check it out.

You could check out Gibsons though it may be a little far... Pretty good rep overall from the place.

those pics look amazing, what place is that? The pictures i saw look different...

They have good instructors i think, as long as the guys with all the credentials are the ones teaching, not just have their name slapped on the place.

yeah the place looks okay but getting across that bridge during rush hour to make the bjj classes would take too long.

Most of the pictures on their website are of the Langley/Surrey gym. That could be the Coquitlam one. I went to Revolution for a short time before injuries plagued me. Cool place.

 welcome to the cage. If you live in surrey- revolution has a gym there as well as in langley i think....the pics are of the langley one, but the surrey one is very decent as well.

there is one in surrey FOR sure.... the other either langley or chilli.

And 150 isnt TOO steep, most mma places will run you that much. you should see if signing contract will give you cheaper monthly rates...etc.
Also, if you want to train in bjj more, just find a bjj school- i guarantee it will be much cheaper. ITR452 trains at some gracie barra school and i think its hella cheap compared, check it.

i'm living in kingston right now. I've never trained at a real gym before, i have a little over a year of casual bjj training at my university's gym and a bit of striking/muay thai training. I have the basics down pretty much.

I'd be moving back in with the parents in a few weeks in south surrey for the summer out of school. I wouldn't have a car either so i'd be bussing it everywhere.

Do you know roughly how long ago that thread by cybereye was made, i don't have search so i would have to go through page by page.

I thought the surrey/langley one are the same gym. Well at least i hope.

I'd be down for a just bjj school but i can't really find any. I thought gracie barra is downtown and does all that other crap too. If they have just a gracie barra bjj school nearby i'd be all over that. And i guess 150 isn't too high considering how nice the gym looks. Hopefully ITR452 comes in the thread, no pms for me

Isn't the Fortress an invite-only gym that's mainly for pro fighters? I don't think it's open to the public..
