I recently picked up a Winchester Model of 1897 12 gauge (built in 1914) From the worn wood, to the complete lack of any bluing on the gun I can tell that she has been welll loved. Anyways when I first got it about 50% of the time it would not lock the hammer back but fall to half-cocked and sometimes it wouldn't completely fire instead falling to half cocked. After a good bit of cleaning and oiling followed by tightening the screw it is now at 95+% cocking. But I found the culprit I the notch in the trigger for cocked is practically worn flat, she doesn't have much life left in her. BTW production ended in 1954 I beleive. Cliff: I need a new hammer for a Wichester Model of 1897 12 gauge with a 1914 build date and would prefer to buy from a site that is reputable and people have ahd dealings with.
