At the range the other day, this guy had a steel plate or something behind his target so when he hit the X there was a loud DING noise.

Where can I get one of these? :dunno:

Go to a junkyard or a machine shop and see if you can get some scraps. The stuff lowes sells (well atleast the one here) isnt thick enough to stop a rifle but it might do for a pistol.

I've never even thought of doing that at a range. I wonder if some of the indoor places would allow it?

Theres actually a great state owned range around me. For $5 a day you can shoot whatever gun you legally own with your own ammo or you can buy it from them for the same price you would pay most other places (in a store anyhow...internet is obviously usually cheaper). I wonder if they would let you.

My range let's you shoot any metal plates, targets, etc. as long as they're at least 25 yards out.

One local range here is state-run, and doesn't allow shotguns & alot of other stuff..

There's another that's literally a dirt hill off to the side of the road. You can shoot whatever the hell you want, at whatever the hell you want.

The indoor ranges around here aren't much longer than 25 yards anyhow.

And thats what I hear about most state owned ranges. I think I just got lucky with this local one. They've got all the clay games for shotguns as well as archery and a rifle range.

Shooting steel is a lots of fun, but if you are not careful you can some to rely on the sound to know when you made the hit..instead of your sight picture. If you shoot a human, you are not going to see your hit.

There's a range near me that's having a Santa Shoot. Basically we bring out all the stupid xmas decorations, like life size reindeers, Santa figures etc and blast em.
