My mom needs a new computer for web surfing. Probably going to be like 1ghz 1gb, where is a good place to buy such a thing? Ebay? Dell's cheapest is like $350, but its a Dell. I'm not sure how cheaply I can build a low end system, it is probably cheaper to buy one.

    Are you in the US?
I just built myself a new system. I have a bunch of parts left over. I was going to put them all on ebay and sell them seperatly. But if you are interested I will put you together a system with these parts for...
say $100 + you pay shipping?

If you are interested email me at:
    [email protected]

We can talk about details like the video card and the OS and such through that address.

You could also try buying refurbished computers from mostly any computer store.
Some stores around my house are selling refurbished computers(from banks, schools, government buildings, etc..) (24.ghz, 512mb-1gig RAM, ~80gig hd,etc..) for around 200$

get a used one or free one... i give away a few pcs a time on craigslist.. my next batch is a dual xeon box w/ 2.5 GB of RDRAM and an old LOUD AMD athlon 1.4. if no one wants it, it goes to goodwill.

cheapest machine would be from the dell outlet.

    Dimension C521(System Identifier: EEBV80E8)

    • Dimension C521 Desktop: AMD Sempron 3400+ (1.8 GHz)
    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic

I would just check craigslist... I have seen alot on there that would fit your requirements that come with everything for $100-$200. That includes monitor and the OS.

Checking out dell outlet now. You give away PCs for free? When do you plan to do this next?

I would certainly like a dual xeon box. Would you accept cash for one?

I think the other day I saw someone on here talking about getting some more RDRAM (I think that's what it was) but was having a hard time finding decent priced stuff.

What city do you list them in?

I picked up one of those to be used as a shop computer, and it does what it needs to. That said, I paid $279 for it with a 19" LCD from Circuit City, returned the monitor the next day and ended up around $145 brand new. :naughty:
