Buddy was telling me Walmart 870's are crappier than ones you see elsewhere. Any validity to that statement?

The one I am looking at on gunbroker is $344 shipped with the tube extension. Walmart's price was ~$300 IIRCC.

Academy is cheaper than wal-mart and Dick's (if you have one) is cheaper than Academy.

I think there is stigma about Wal*Mart long guns. Whether they are actually crappier than others, or less reliable, or less accurate I don't know.
One will never know unless you buy one from Wal*Mart and one from somewhere else, and compare them at the range.

That said, I just don't think I can trust a Wal*Mart gun, not for home defense.

Simply for the fact that Wal*Mart would be that company that gets the reject guns that didn't make the cut.

    I just can't trust them.

Where the fuck did you get that from? I didn't say anything like that.

I said it's possible Wal*Mart could get the guns that don't make the cut. I never said Wal*Mart would MAKE Remington lower the quality. :ugh:

Word. That's what my friend said. Not that they make Remington produce them shittier, just that somethings that are a little out of spec might make it into wal*mart spec.

    Makes sense.

Walmart- "Hey you know how you throw away those parts that are part 1mm out of spec, how about you sell them to us instead of making more cost on your part."
Remington - "OK, we will sell you out of spec ones but not ones that will cause significant reliability issues. They are safe, but not the best."

Makes sense to me. They do it with their electronics so why not weapons too?

I'm not saying that's what happens. I'm saying it's possible. And since it is Wal*Mart, I just can't trust them. Not for a home defense weapon.
Now a hunting or plinker rifle... maybe.

Yeah, the possibility was what I was trying to illustrate. I was just trying to see if anyone heard the same thing, and you confirmed it. I wish there was some hard evidence of this though.

Dick's didn't have the express tactical model, and don't keep it in stock. Have to order it during the week and it is 5-9 day wait time to get it in.

While it might be walmart we are talking a Remington 870 here. Those things are built like a tank. I'm sure any 870 you got at walmart would be fine. I wouldn't buy a big screen TV or other nonsense at Walmart but a remington 870 I would have no problem with. That is if I could not get the same rifle for slightly more or the same price at my local gun store which I try to give as much bussiness to as possible.

It is far fetched and ridiculous, but people expect inferior things from Walmart because the prices are so low. Also they were one of the first retailers for the Remington 710, which was a budget hunting rifle that wasn't all that great and was pretty much unanimously disliked.

Are you talking about me? I told Zach that. That's what I've always read. Walmart gets a pricebreak from manufacturers on guns that are *just* below standard.

I wouldn't buy any guns from Wally world.

Hard to believe everything a disgruntled (ex)employee says, but I'm sure much of that is true, or at least leaning in that direction.
Even if it's not true, I still can't trust Wal*Mart to make the right decision in this regard. I too have worked for them, and seen the quality of their firearms.
I just can't trust my life to a gun bought at Wally World, sorry. Hunting rifle or plinker, sure, but not a defense weapon.

I bought my marlin 30-30 and scope from Wal-Mart. Ya know, I was real concerned about Wal-Mart's manufacturing process on firearms because sometimes that self-checkout line doesn't work well.

Did you try any local gun shops? I have that model, 18" bbl and factory +2 extension, I paid $300 out the door from the local place. I'm not suprised Dick's didn't carry it, most of the shotguns they have are geared towards hunting, most gun shops carry it though.

All guns have to meet the Remington specs before being shipped, doesn't matter if it's Walmart of your FFL. The liability of selling a known defective gun would be to great for any gun maker, it's not a risk they are willing to take.

I'd be curious to know if the people in here that wouldn't buy a gun from them, do you use ammo from Walmart? If you are so paraniod about it, how do you know Winchester/CCI etc don't do the same thing? Hmmmm?
