hehe my dad got me into it...i have an 00 tdi...jetta...momz has a 01 tdi jetta...and dads has a 82 240D...all of the cars run like champs...i'm already up to like 75k miles on mine and it never gives me issues...i love it...mostly i get 45-50mpg...alot depends on the gas station lately...but my moms auto only avgs 42ish...and my dad bought his and was avg 28...and just hit around 36 the other week...did a full tune-up and it worked wonders....

but the chip from what i know for the tdis actually raised some peoples gas mileage...its just raising boost unless ur on the gas more it won't change...but the nozzles will def affect alittle...i can't think of the company off the top of my head but someone on vortex is selling an intercooler/chip/injectors kit thats supposed to pull a tdi up to almost 180fhp...and torque over 250

    I'm a wannabe diesel head. :o

    Soon enough. :x:

Also, like Ice Rado said, chipping TDI's will actually increase your fuel mileage. The myth that they decrease mileage comes from people actually driving their cars harder. Heavier lead foot = decreased mileage.

    My friend has a TDI.

Straight pipe it, no cat. Chip it, then get the turbo that comes on them in germany with some software and bigger injectors :)

unless its pump duse the euro turbo won't be worth it...you could easily find a better turbo to slap on instead of wasting time gettin one from germany...basically it'll all be a waste when the new ones hit here...2.0t 16v diesel :hsd:

Ya i know that if you get a chip it CAN go up.....and only a few chips actually help, but i know once i have more power i am going to HAVE to use it. And the Larger nozzles can also help......it can inject the same amount of gas in a shorter time, making more time to mix with the air for a more complete burn. I have a full list of mods i want to do and i will be looking at 40 on the high way when i am done, and i can live with that.

and i dont know about those hp numbers........180hp usually equals about 325+ torque
it is hard to get hp out of these things, but TORQUE is a differenct story

180 can be done, but it will take alot more than that.....and the factory IC is not all that bad.....the piping and the oil the ccv is what hurts it the most

i'm definitely talking flywheel hp though which probably translates to way down near 150whp...this was also on pump duse though and in testing so the dynos might have been alittle off for the actual product...but its gonna be alittle while i don't think anyone is gonna actually try to work on the older tdis...strictly cuz pump duse will be in all the new vws...and its almost a waste to start now when in 2k5 we are supposed to get the 16v diesel...which will probably be in the end the only thing worth modifying...the car will sound killer and do some major damage on the highway

^^^ I don't have one yet, so no it didn't blow. It'll be getting swapped into something. Year or engine codes doesn't really matter - 1Z, AHU, ALU, BEW, or even the new PD's.

I saw a SMART driving around here the other day, they're pretty cool little cars. 75MPG would be nice.

    Depends.

The safety cell system the Smart is built on, acts in the crash tests I have seen as an integral roll cage. In impacts with a concrete barrier it suffered virtually no deformation of the safety cell.

Still, due to is v. low weight and highish centre of gravity it has a habit of falling over at relatively low speed impacts. Personally I wouldnt want to be the one to find out just how strong it is :big grin:
