I need the serial number and for the life of me cannot find it! I need the number off my 20D, 580EX Flash, and my Tamron 28-300 lens, can't find a freaking serial number anywhere on either of these. Probably looked at it 3 times by now without knowing it :o

I think the EOS viewer utility shows the serial number of the body.

Also, with the viewer utility, you can also program in your name and phone number, so each pictures exif data is 'watermarked' in case your camera is ever stolen.

in the viewer utility, go to options, and then click camera options.

sn number on the lens is on the outer exterior, the inside number is the date code

on the body it is on the bottom, mine is covered by the grip so can't tell you exactly where

flash is on the the bottom of the output half at the angle, probably have to straighten it upward to see it

you getting insurance or just for records? its always on the warranty card too

Putting it under the homeowners insurance just in case it gets stolen.

I would highly discourage that. Look into a seperate policy, you don't want a homeowners claim for something as trivial as that. There are horror stories on the pro boards about that. A seperate policy can be had for fairly cheep if you're not selling your prints

yep, I am looking into insurance on mine as well..

DO think of going into the software and putting your name and number in. Its a VERY slim chance that it will come in handy, but if someone takes your camera, and the police find it, having your name programmed into the camera will help identify it.

hmm, ok well the lens sn seems to be under the cap on regular lenses but on the outside of L lenses. the inside number on L lenses is the date code.

for those that are renting a place, it is very easy to get a combination renters and camera policy but that won't effect your renters if your camera stuff is stolen. Just about everyone offers it, so look around for the best deals.
