OK for 1... i'm haveing a bitch of a time deciding between either lens...

I want to shoot sports photography, but i'm sure i will eventually do sometype of wedding work where i'm not the main photographer but the second dude taking pics...

From what i'm reading the 70-300 is probably the best option in everycase... but the 70-200 is simply better interms of contrast, durability, etc....

Although the 70-300 comes in rather close...

anywho, my gut tells me to go with the 70-300...

that said, I'm heading to new york in november and want to pickup a lens... Since the prices are rather good in NY :big grin:

Where do you guys recommend I check out?

    Thanks :big grin:

Nikon? Or Canon? Or other? If you mean Nikon, you are horribly misinformed. The 70-300 f/3.5-5.6 (or is it 4.5-6.3?) is NO WHERE close to the 70-200 f/2.8 in any fashion. Sharpness, durability, contrast, resolution, you name it.

On the plus side, the 70-300 is dirt cheap in comparison.

Check out B&H. They have EVERYTHING.

Only if he has a canon banner in the back.

I have the 70-200/4L, and I really like it. :)

    it's such a great lens!!

it's like... 4L is great, but 300 has IS...
4L is weatherproof and solid... the 300 has an extra 100mm....

The optics on both are fantastic too... :-/

    The 4l is not weatherproof.

And the 70-300 is nowhere near it as far as quality (image / build) is concerned. :hs:

hmmm weird cause some of the reviews have been showing the 4L and the 300 are near the same optically. with the 4L resolving a bit more lines.

build... definitely goes to the 4L...

When i say weather proof, I was told it's basically water proof... more so than the 300... :big grin:

Keep in mind nobody is going to shit all over a lens that they are trying to sell. ;)

Try both lenses, I bet you go with the 70-200.

    And it isn't weatherproof.

I had this same issue about a month ago....

I decided with the F4L for the fact that I could get a converter to produce a 300+ mm shot, and it would still be a better image quality then that of the 70-300

    true, that's the other factor...

I'm assuming camera shake shouldn't be too much of an issue assuming you have a decently steady hand... shoot with a higher iso, etc...

lol i'm personally aware of B&H... but i live in canada... visiting new york... so although i've bought from B&H online, i've never looked up their actual address...

moreover, i wouldn't know if B&H is going to give the best price for a particular lens, once i'm actually in new york... :)

there was a question on what i would be shooting with the lens....

as mentionned... I would be doing some sports photography every once and a while.

Some nature... (nothing requiring like 600mm for example... hehe )

i'm sure i'll eventually be the side shooter at a wedding... helping the main photographer out... but that's at a later date...

for now, it's mainly the sports part, uhm portrait work / people shooting, buildings... candid shots...

    f4L hands down. if you're a baller get the 70-200 f/2.8L and if you're a drug dealer get the 70-200 f/2.8L IS

  24. If you buy, buy online. Sales tax FTL... Oh shit but you live in Canada so you'll have to pay duities. Your best bet is to get a friend to buy it for you who lives in the states and doesn't live in NY so they won't have to pay taxes. Then get the friend to ship the shit to you as a birthday gift to aviod duities. :bigthumb:

  25. I'm not a droog dealer :wtc:
