I'm about to purchase my G19 next month, and then I think my next purchase will be a good rifle. Here is what I'm looking for:

-I want something larger than a .22. I have one and I guess I'm missing the fun in it.
-Looking for something that I could really deck out (scope, bipod, whatever else)
-Precision Shooting is what I intend to do. I figured when the zombies come, I want to be able to drop them from my balcony.
-I don't know what expensive is for rifles, so let's start with a ceiling of $1000.
-Do not have anything against Bolt Action, but Semi is fine to.

I don't know much about the cartridges that are larger than a .22 so I just have no clue where to begin looking. So any advice would be nice. Thanks

10FP in .308 will be my first 'precision' rifle.
But, that will just be the start of the collection.

Remington 700, probably has the most aftermarket accessories available for it.

I don't know how open you are to milsurp stuff but the Swiss k-31 is a straight pull bolt action gun. Most people find they perform about 1 MOA, some a little tighter, some a little looser. I don't know if thats accurate enough for you or not. The gun will run you from $150-250, you can spend the rest on the no-drill scope mount, good glass, bipod, and a case of ammo.

Remington 700 would be a good place to start from if you're not into the AR look.

    :slap:

AR-10 is going to run you more than a grand for a quality one. Also, AR-15s cost less to feed and have a larger aftermarket.

Do you have a k31 that is far worse? What does it shoot. Perhaps I can help you out, a little tweaking on the screws can really dial the k31 in, if its really rough some spacers on the bands seem to do the trick. I wouldn't use any scope mount except Pierre St. Marie's. Have you had an experience with it being unsuitable?

edit: and really use the drill and tap mount if you prefer, but for a noob looking for an accurate rifle on a tight budget, i'd be surprised if he was disappointed with the setup I suggested.

I've yet to read an owner of it say a single bad thing about it so I'm eager to see what his experience is.

    Thanks for the info guys.

I think the 700 was exactly what I was looking for. Time to start the research on that, thanks

Remington 700 Police .308 if you are looking to spend $1000 on the rifle. 700 SPS Varmint in .308 plus ~$350 in optics if you want the whole thing for around a grand.

Try one of the Rock River Arms or Bushmaster Varmint rifles. Add a scope to it, and you are all set!

That's in incredibly good shape, did you get it from GunBroker and just get lucky or what?

Do they make reproductions of them or can you only get originals?
