I looked at atf.org(oops) and googled but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Can't search here because of the three letter crap.

Are you sure he doesnt need a form 1? Form 4s are for transfer of Class III weapon (i.e. he is buying a gun with a suppressor already on it). If he is just buying a suppressor and putting it on a gun he already owns, then he is building a Class III firearm and that requires a Form 1.

I thought as far as the BATFE is concerned a suppressor is a firearm. If it was an integrally suppressed barrel you might be right.

I was not aware of that, but if that is the case, then a Form 4 is correct.

form 4 in that case, just because you perma attach doesn't mean the dealer will let you take it home...you need a form4 for that

Besides the material difference I also like the flash hider/quick connect better on the M4-2000.....but not $300 better.

There is an 18-tooth Blackout flash hider available that will fit the M4-1k.
