What language did you start learning, and how did you go about doing so? After you learned that, what was the next language you began to pursue? [IMG]

got laid off learned flex and ADO.NET wile looking for a job

got MCTS for .Net 2.0 with VB.NET and SQL, XML

got a job as app. developer working with .NET 2.0 with C# and Oracle. Learned as i worked. This is my current position my ajax skills got refreshed too alongside everything else.

In the early 90's I learned Quickbasic. Do any of you guys remember it? :)

I started learning HTML around 97' while dabbling with Visual Basic for a few years and took classes in C / C++ around 2000.
About 2001 I got into PERL and

Here are the languages I learned in order:

    early 1990's: MS Quickbasic,
    1997 HTML
    1997 Visual Basic
    1999 C / C++
    2001 PERL
    2002 PHP / SQL
    2002 XML
    2003 Java
    2003 refined my CSS skills
    2004 Embedded C for microcontrollers

It is a constant learning process.

    Teh Jd,
What do you want to build/code? That should dictate what language you want to pursue!

    HTML in high school
More HTML and some Javascript early in College
C++ in college which turned my attentions more towards PHP/MySQL
Touched a little bit of DHTML, tried to migrate my programming to XHTML, and some more javascript the first year out of college.
Now I'm a full year past graduation and accepted a job programming with cold fusion.

I started with just some basic HTML making StarCraft fan sites. Now I'm an expert with HTML and CSS, working on some javascript.

I started going some Python when I was 13, then stopped after a while, then started doing RealBasic (like VisualBasic for Macs) then I've done a hell of a lot of C++ for the past 3.5 years, and started doing PHP+MySQL about 1.5 years ago, and one of my jobs required ASP, so I picked up on that pretty quickly, and HTML, CSS, stuff like that. Those are the main ones. Over the past few years I've also touched on Prolog, LISP, Java, VB, Objective-C. I've also done a lot with linux systems and bash shell commands with some scripting.
