Lookin for functionality or beauty, preferably both
Windowblinds does a pretty thorough job, but it's not free.
Royale_noir looks great, and it's free.
It doesn't quite change all the folders quite as much as Windowblinds,
but the toolbars and the start window look superb.
It has black and royal blue as the two options.
There *is* a free version of WindowBlinds, but honestly I think it's worth paying the $20 for. It really spices up Windows and you get a lifetime subscription to their skin-downloading service, which has probably a wider developer base than any other skinning method, including the uxtheme.dll hackers.

At a glance, that looks like a pretty good walkthrough.
hmmm... I tried the uxtheme.dll setup, and it didn't run so smooth on my system. And I'm running an Intel 965 mobo with an E6600 +2gb.
It obviously must run well on some systems, but I'm just pointing out
that it didn't on mine.
But windowblinds, royale_noir, and object dock run perfect on my system.
Btw, if you run windowblinds, you won't need royale_noir because windowblinds
has so many skins available. Including quite a few Vista themed ones.
i went the uxtheme --> windows vista 1.1 skin (which was already updated to 1.4xx) but i havent got widgets n shit to work yet
