sooo expensive locally and in smaller packages
in for answer.
shoot a deer/elk and go to a butcher. i get fuckin delicious jerky for $2 a pound.
I had delicious jerkey from a friend that was, I kid you not, Bear jerky.
Apparently he's friends with a local animal carcass recovery guy and the guy hooks him up with the meat.
We go in to fix his computer and he offers us like two huge bags of jerky, then explains to us its "fresh bear" after handing us the bags.
costco has a pretty decent price on several good jerky products.
there was a thread on here posted by someone not too long ago where oberto was doing buy one get one free on a lot of stuff... I got like 13 pounds of it for like 80 bux.
watch out for this shit, i was pretty grossed out, but it was probably my fault for the way i left it. so i open a bag of the 1lb jerky. i leave it in my office all day, and the sun probably shines on it some time during the morning or day. i didn't touch it for 2 weeks at one point, and when i take a look at it, there's mold all over. kinda made me gag for a moment, since i did eat it two weeks ago. i thought jerky lasted forever. apparently not.
how can jerky last, sealed, in a dark place?
oberto is 16oz for about 10$ at costo.
jerky should be consumed within 3-7 days of opening typically, which is why large packages are not necessarily good.
if it super dry, which often means not too tasty, it can last longer.
how about sealed up? not opened?
Who would have thought...
I have about 15 lbs of shredded jerky I'll sell
these prices are pretty close to costco, which only requires purchase of 2 packages, instead of ten.
Werd, just that people cant use Google, and it is pathetic.
really depends on the maker and process. they usually have expiry dates, though find that the further from that date the better. jerky tends to harden.
sodium content and dryness are pretty good indicators of "longer shelf life", though also tend to impact flavor and consumability... really dry jerky will lead to a wicked jaw pump.
I love Big John's.
Their firey hot is awesome.
make your own. best if you get a dehydrator. the oven method requires keeping the oven slightly open for hours and hours, which can get $$$ and in the summer, extra fucking hot
haha best title!
