or can you do say, eat under 2000cals a day, and lift like normal, but no cardio, or would you need to throw in cardio also?

i'd say do cardio... that way you don't have to worry about starving yourself and losing a ton of muscle mass due to not eating

    Yes!

Cutting calories with my metabolism is not an option anymore.

Maintenance for me is around 3000-3200/day. I start by dropping 500 calories, drop another 500 when fat loss stops, drop some more, and I end up in a rut maintaining my weight at 1600-1800 calories/day. That aint right. I refuse to cut calories any more. If I'm getting too fat, carb cutoffs and cardio will do the work for me.

I can\\\'t wait to start bulking so I can respark this mess.. <b>
    EDIT: That\'s WITH cardio.

Do you guys spend 90 minutes in the gym while cutting to get the cardio in? Or do you significantly reduce the volume of lifting? I'm spent after doing 20 sets while eating a caloric surplus... there's no way I could go on and 30 min of cardio while cutting and still lift like that.

Yup, it's pretty dumb for most men to do 2k calories a day.

Ideally, you'd give yourself a 6 hour gap between when you lifted and when you do your cardio.

When cutting, I keep intensity high, volume low, and weight high. If you do cardio mixed with lifting, either do 20 mins of very light cardio before hand to warm up, or do 30 mins of light cardio afterwords. Either way, I really hate mixing them.

I wish I didn't have to... but I spend 10-11 hours a day working/commuting, so I don't really have that option except on weekends.

When you say you keep the volume low... what does that mean? 10 sets?

    Would you do like 5x5 squats/dead and 5x5 bench/pullups?

I try to split up as much as I can.. even if its an hour in between.. Typically, more times then not, I do cardio right after weights. And I can hardly get in 20-30 minutes of medium intensity before nearly passing out.

i just lift heavy and diet. i only get to like 13%ish when i finish a cut, and i'm fine with that. if i had tons of mass and was looking to get very lean then i'd do cardio

I haven't had one in awhile since I've actually been trying to bulk up.
I guess because I might have something riding, I'm not taking a chance.
