They use flash memory, not hard drives. You can get a 32 GB flash memory but it is way too expensive for the time being... that's why the biggest flash iPod is now 16 GB.

Once they are sure they have enough flash memory for everything. Then I suspect we will see the missing Nano and iPhone show up.

I say just before the holiday season. Here's why:

    * Dropping the cost of the 8GB iPhone leaves the $600 price point open for a premium iPhone. Apple wasn't sure if people would bite on a $600 device, so they released the 4GB iPhone. After two months, it's clear that there is a market for a $600 device.

    * iPhone is due out in Europe by the end of this year. Europe uses 3G. Apple is gonna have to make a 3G iPhone anyways, so why not make throw in a few extra gigs and make it the $600 premium version in the US?

I only use 8 of the 60 gigs on my ipod video I've had for almost two years. Take away the videos i never watch or photos I don't look at and I only need 1/3rd of that.

i don't understand why everyone is saying that flash memory costs so much money compared to hard disk. i just bought a 4gb pro duo card for my w801i and it was like $20 after rebate.
i do realize that anything above 4gb is very pricey though...

yeah why do people say flash memory is expensive?? i can get a 2 gb sd card for $15 so production costs are probally like $9 or less so to have a 30gb flash drive would cost $9 x 15 = $145 which isn't bad for 30gbs.

yeah, unfortuntaely it doesn't work that way...
ever priced a 4 gig stick of ram and 4x 1gigs of ram?
the higher the capacity of flash/ram the price starts going up, not down...
