what commands are sent to the server? I'm trying to use a telnet scripting tool to send mail to our technicians, but if the dispatcher is outside of our local domain I have to use outgoing authentication (within Outlook). It all works fine within Outlook, but I need the actual commands that it's sending so I can duplicate the process in a script.

    Thanks in advance

Thanks - I figured it out - but there was a real lack of real world examples to be found. Maybe I'm too lazy but I'd rather not read a white paper on how to do something - just give me an example and let me go.

but as was said, I think the exact mechanism depends on the implementation ... I've seen outgoing SMTP auth'd only by a simple username/domain check ... I've also had work configurations that required a password to be sent, and it went cleartext using PLAIN auth transition IIRC ... I believe there's also an SSL implementation ...
