strength is a realative term... there is no set point where you should have a belt on. I know 165lbers that put their belt on when the hit 600 on the squat and I know 165ers that have to but a belt on at 185.

the idea of a belt is to stabilize your internals and your muscle groups. People usually put a belt on but have no idea how to use it. The belt is there for you to press your stomach out onto. The pressing motion locks everything in place to keep you tight.

ummm, maybe as a security blanket type feel I could see, but you arent putting preasure on your abdomen or spine (the way a belt can help) when you're benching...

I wear the belt really loose after I warm up and begin my work sets on squats then gradually tighten it up for max effort work.

Last time I did DLs I felt like my stomach was getting stretched with all the pressure I was pushing it out with. I think I'm getting a belt now.

:ugh: we cant have that. then you'd have no one to yell at :o

I only use a belt for squat and deadlift, i honestly dont feel any difference when I bench.

oh, and I never max when I bench, but today was chest/shoulder day, and after my incline workout, I did flat bench, and at the very end of my work out I did 245X6  I dont know what my one rep max is, I figure I'm not there to impress anyone with some number, but I am curious to know.

but I worked pretty hard before the 245X6, so maybe if I came right in and warmed up I could push higher :dunno:

For general reference, the formula it uses is

    (Weight in work set)/(1.0278-(0.0278*NumberOfReps))

    so your 245x6 looks like

    (245)/(1.0278-(0.0278*6))
