two days ago I lost my job and today ipowerweb decided my site was violating the terms of service and deleted everything on it. I only have like two galleries from the 50 or so galleries I used to send to my clients..

jesus im panicking now, can someone recommend me a good hosting solution for my website?

Sucks man. I hope things get turned around for you. I don't know much about hosting companies except for Bludomain and Godaddy, but if you're sending potential clients 50 galleries for them to look at, that's WAAAAY too many.

its 50 galleres over the course of years, I send a client a gallery with previews of the files they choose which to edit and I send them out via emails, sometimes I upload them full resolution and link those, but its usually no more than 5 to 10 files..my bandwith usage was beyond reasonable.

Man that sucks. I use 1and1.com for domain/hosting and have never had any major problem. With the small problems I've had though I usually had to speak to someone in New Delhi or w/e, so that sucked.

I've heard great things about Bluehost.com as well.

It looks like all the 50% off coupons no longer work for smugmug, but use the code "stuckincustoms" to get 20% off.

    first,. Hang in there.

As for hosts, I use smugmug for all my galleries, and verio for my sites. Couldn't be happier with either.

Sucks to hear, I'd hate to lose my job.

I use Dreamhost, but people don't give it very much respect. I've had it for over 2 years now and have had no issues whatsoever. They're quick to apply "add-ons", my bandwidth is practically unlimited and my space is about the same (450gb, +2gb a week). I pay $110/year for this and domain hosting.

Stay tough. I would probably cry too. It's a frightening time right now, but there are opportunities to be had. You just have to dig really deep.

I myself am quite nervous about my job and some I have lined up for interviews.

Just have to stay strong and, and I know it's cliche - but at least you have your health (or so i hope)

As for hosting and backups - I use smugmug to host some of my stuff, I also use flickr. Both pro accounts. I also have many redundant backup drives for all of my work as well.

Smugmug is a really safe route to go.

you can get better hosts for the same price or less, I am a web guy, i have dealt with a shitload of hosts over the years and dreamhost and 1 and 1 are two of the worst ones out there

    with that being said

host gator rules for shared hosting, and if you want a good reliable host that is cheap and owned by an oter, look into bounce web

If you are considering smugmug, you should also consider zenfolio.
I've heard good things about zen.

Can they do that? I mean, delete everything? Isn't there some sort of copyright law or something that gives you access to YOUR files and photos. I would demand they give you a zip or rar of your site. Take it and transfer to a new webhost. Good luck!

See, that's the funny part...i've had absolutely no issues whatsoever. No downtime, no files missing, no funny business...it has been 100% reliable. I understand not everyone has similar experiences in anything in life, but this one has just baffled me.
