I was bored so I rummaged through some spare parts I had lying around, and I present you with this:

    Consists of:

    2x Maxtor 80GB Diamond Max 9 7200RPM 8MB Buffer
    4x Western Digital 80GB JB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer
    1x Samsung 40GB 7200RPM 2MB Buffer

    4-channel / 8-drive RAID 5 controller

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (o/c to 3200+ on passive heatsink)
    MSI nForce2 K7N2G Delta Motherboard
    1GB Kingston DDR-400 CAS2 (2x512MB Dual Channel)

    Lite-On 40x/12x/48x CD-RW
    Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM

I'm gonna get a gigabit NIC (a nice Intel card is $40 at newegg)

So far I've got Win2k Advanced Server (legit) running on the 40GB Samsung, and a 320GB RAID5 array with a hot-spare drive going. Figure it'll make a good server.

Any recommendations on cases to fit it all in? Gotta be cheap.

I never thought I'd say this, but I think you should get some duct tape to hold down your drive array :)

the "DVD Player" you see is actually one of those all-in-one 5.1 surround sound systems. It wasn't good enough for my TV, but it was perfect for my computer -- so that's what I'm using on my computer right now. As for TiVo, I've already got a P4 550 w/NVTV and MCE2k5 running as my media-center :wiggle:

Anyone know of a case that all this crap will fit in? :hsd:

or does anyone want to buy any of it? The Mobo/CPU/RAM would make a sweet budget system for somebody :)

3U is better because you can get full-height PCI cards in there w/o needing a reiser.
