IF you are getting low frame rates at the resolution and detail you are using.

Pretty much never. Virtually nothing is so important that it's worth spending over 2x the money on so you can run it on high settings now instead of in 6 months.

To you maybe. Some people enjoy being able to play games on a large display w/ high resolution and detail.

I said "virtually nothing", not "absolutely nothing". And besides, there's no accounting for taste or stupidity.

Unless you like WoW. Turns out it won't run at all unless you tell your GTX295 or SLied GPU's to run on a single GPU. I don't play the game but Geek Squad was flooded with issues regarding this. I had one customer walk in a say, "I need this withing two hours, and I'll pay anything to make sure I get it fixed." So I asked, "Why do you need it so fast?" His response? "I need to join my friends on a WoW raid at 7:30 tonight!" He must have paid close to $400 for us to figure out on google in a few minutes that he needed to disable a core on his 295. All I can say is, WoW.

It was the only way to get 800 x 600 back in the day.

Some people run games at 2560x1600 resolution or even 1920x1080 can be somewhat demanding for high end games and people that are picky and need 60+ fps.

My friend says his Alienware laptop had one of the video cards go bad (I think it has Nvidia 7950GT in SLI). All he plays is WoW. Could it still actually work?

I don't doubt this for a second, 6 months sober... One of the best games I've ever played, with the best memories, but unless you force yourself to stop there is no end, and you find yourself spending more and more time in the game.

Actually, I got tired of always doing the same thing: go out, mine shit, head back, refine it, post it on the auction house, scope out any good deals while waiting for a raid to form up, go out again, kill shit, sell the junk and not get any items I wanted to keep, etc.... I played it for a year in 2005 and then I was done.

The problem with any subscription game is eventually the company will exhaust the core storyline of the game, the stuff that makes sense given the in-game history, and they'll end up looking to just string you along so you keep paying. Blizzard has done a good job of adding top-end content, but it's all stuff they had planned out ahead of time. And ultimately, you can't take it with you, you have to leave it behind when you quit. We'll see what happens to the game when they reach the end of their playbook.

Now, what would be a really cool end to the game is if you could order a little statue of your actual in-game character in some cool pose, instead of just a cheesy printout. I might actually start playing again if I could buff up my dwarf hunter and then buy a cool 3D-printed resin paperweight of him.

I did end game raiding, at one point I was ranked 2nd on server as far as quality of gear (this was WOTLK/Ulduar era). If I didn't raid I would have quit a long time ago.

This would be me (yes this character was a female, all my casters were female all my melee were male):

I considered ordering one a couple of times, but they are expensive.
