I'm not in a "rush" to get a MBP as I have until mid-august to purchase a laptop....

    Should I wait?

Also where are the good Mac forums?

Wait at least until after WWDC. I think Job's keynote is on the 9th and any major announcments/product refreshes should come around then.

AFAIK OS X doesn't support blu-ray yet, so you'll have to own the latest version of toast. Then you'll have to go out and buy a supported blu-ray drive, of which there may or may not exist external ones yet... in which case you'll need to buy an internal SATA drive + SATA to Firewire/USB enclosure for it.

    :hs:

edit: more info on OS X support in this thread, a few posts down... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7035528

I've seen external ones at Fry's. I hope OSX supports BR soon enough, and they make an internal drive for the MacBook

I heard Intel pushed back the production of something or other so we might not see new MacBook Pros till late August/September.

Sucks for going to college crew (me) who want to get the new Macbook Pro for college.

Apple is expected to launch its Back to School promotion tomorrow, and on the eve of its launch, we've learned that Apple is indeed going to be making it their biggest ever.

According to our sources, Apple will be offering a free 8GB iPod Touch ($299) to college students who buy a qualifying Mac (MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Pro). Alternatively, students may choose to get an 8GB iPod Nano ($199). The promotion will run from June 3 to September 15th, 2008.

With this aggressive promotion as well as the rumored 3G-capable iPhone launch, Apple is rapidly expanding their Touch OS X platform over the next few months, giving developers a large audience for their iTunes Store apps and games.

There remains one uncertainty, however. When Apple releases the 2.0 firmware for the iPhone and iPod Touch, iPod Touch owners will be required to pay a small fee for the upgrade. Customers who purchase an iPod Touch now may be required to pay this fee when the upgrade arrives in late June. More details may be available tomorrow or at WWDC next week.

Details of the Back to School promotion, including eligibility should be officially announced tomorrow.

:hs: they're not allowed to say anything even if they did know.

You can always try going back on the 3rd or after and asking for the ipod.

what'd you get and how much?

As already said, the Apple Store employees don't find out about new machines until all of us do when they're announced. At this point it's nothing but speculation too.

Did you get a Marware pad? I have one on my wrist rest and really like it. Also came with a keyboard cover/screen cleaner that works great for keeping your screen from getting keyboard marks. It's the one that doesn't cover the trackpad and my company paid $20 for it. I think it's worth it.
