I've been sick as hell the past three days.

I've still gone to work but haven't made it to the gym... do you just kick yourself and go? I haven't missed a workout since Aug and I want to keep it in my routine.

    What do you do?

I didn't go on the weekend because it was -36 degrees celcius, which is about -32F, just too cold to leave the house.

Stay out of the gym and get better.

If it's light and you're taking your vitamins and feeling decent I usually go. But if there is a fever, sore throat, bad cough, tiredness, etc... any of that, fuck it.

    Take the whole week off.

  8. I went today while kind of "sick". Lifted alright considering.

I'd say stay the fugg home though if you're actually sick. Just gonna make yourself sicker, have a crappy workout and get others sick possibly at the same time. Would you really want some runny nose boy touching your dumbbells?

Stay out of the gym - I don't want to be sick and have to miss my gym days:x:

Everytime I try to go when I'm sick I feel better for the rest of the night then i wake up the next day 10x worse... In my head I've rationalized that instead of fighting the infection your body spends time repairing itself and you end up screwed. Don't know if that's realistic but personal experience seems to reinforce the idea...

stay home. not only does your body need the rest but you'll spread your germs around the gym which isn't cool

I stayed in last night, I felt really bad. My throat is still a little sore however I still went to to work.

I talked to my pharmacist about this topic and she recommended just taking it easy at the gym (don't lift, do just cardio) and go sit in the sauna if anything. I thought it would spread germs but she claimed it would be so warm/hot its not the right climate to catch a cold.

I'm going to go tonight and do cardio and sit in the sauna. :)

I've had a cold for the past two weeks because my friend and I went running 17 miles in <40 degree weather.. was warm while we were running.

Basically, all my routines which are circuit workouts and my warmup runs SUCKED awfully hardcore with a stupid cold and sore throat. I was dying to jog a 6min mile, and then I had to stop during my weights to catch my breath and wet my throat with some water.

I felt good afterwards, but you really can't do cardio, and you need to pace yourself.

Also, it IS a medical FACT that if you exert yourself strenuously it DOES weaken the immune system and make you more susceptible to colds and such. Definitely corroborated that one with intervals and later wanting to puke up a lung.

I'm "sorta" sick. Been fighting it off for like a week now. My throat will get slightly scratchy here and there, my nose will run a little bit... Nothing full-blown, but it's noticeable.

I still went and did leg/shoulders tonight... Boy was I weak as fuck though. It didn't help that I went at 8pm and had only 700 cals upto that point (didn't have time to eat) so it was just a trainwreck of weakness.

I didn't have the hip mobility to go parallel on squats for the life of me... and 2 plates felt like 4 plates.

What do you have? Green phlegm, bacterial. Yellow, viral. Just cough onto your towel and look away from people when you do.

I think most gyms now have those sanitary wipe dispensers everywhere.

Honestly, with all the sweat and crap, and 99% of the time I see people in public restrooms never bothering to wash their hands, you working out sick is no different in my eyes than working out next to those fools

I'm just so mad at this cold because my week and a half of sucky cardio has set me back.. a week, I'll be up to speed, but it's so frustrating when you mind knows you can hold a <12 min 2 miles casually, but your legs seem to be responding slowly.

Neither... Not bad enough yet that I am coughing up phlegm. I am sleeping 10 hours a day, taking 2,000 mg Vit-C a day, and all my vitamins... I am hoping to keep it at bay... We'll see though.

I always wash my hands before/after the gym though... Some people are unbelievably unsanitary at the gym.

dude, it's the thing I love about running.. I've actually gotten better with age.

A lot faster and stronger than when I was in high school.

I remember being beat by 30 minutes by some 60 year old guy at the Houston marathon this January.. that's my goal by the time I'm 60. Still running freakin marathons and kicking 20-something year olds' asses.

Make sure you bundle up well everytime you go back outside in the cold.

That exacerbated things for me. I don't mind being chilly, but I made the mistake of going out one pretty frosty night and it started snowing. My ears almost instanteously filled with fluid, my nose got congested, and then I just started feeling crummy all over again.

    Elliptical and swim. Alternate days.

And throw in calisthetics. I learned freshman year that some awful things can be done to you utilizing your own bodyweight.. or that of your buddies.
(ex: bearcrawl some 50-60 yards, then do 60-80 pushups, bear crawl back to otherside of field, more pushups.. fireman or deadman carries of guy next to you across field, pushups/flutterkicks, to other side, repeat... *cries*)

I went out in 20ish weather today with a tshirt, blue jeans, and a light fleece and was ok lol.

Layers. Dont need bulky. The more dead air the better. Underarmor shirts work great. Usually that and a t-shirt, and I can handle some good chills.

Yeah, often layering up can be better than having a giant winter jacket.

    I often just wear a t-shirt, waffle-thermal, sweater, and fleece/light jacket.

It's a pain in the ass to strip all the layers off when you go inside somewhere there.
