I thought about jump roping every night for 45 minutes to help me drop 20 lb.

I've heard conflicting things about HIT, particularly that it's a "muscle eater".

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

jumping rope for 45 min would not be considered HIIT

HIIT is an anerobic activity at very high intensity, similar to a weight training session and will not eat muscle, jogging to lose weight is more likely to do that

An example of a HIIT type workout would be sprinting for 30 sec (at 90%+ intensity), jog for 30 sec, sprint for 30 sec, jog etc, for 4 min, then gradually build up to 6 or 7 min

using a spin bike and the same format would work as well.

if you are referring to HIT, then that is the type of training put forth by mike mentzer in which you do only one set per bodypart with ungodly intensity

and i cant remember where i read it but HIIT based training, like a 30 min circuit training session (very high intensity), will burn half the calories of a 45 min running cardio session, but in the end it will burn 9 times the fat that the cardio session would

it was an article by alwyn cosgrove i believe
