    I have none but my squat is respectable, I've got decent speed, and I can nearly dunk at 5'9.5" even though I never play basketball. I don't lift to impress the ladies so is there any reason I should care about my calves?

    Yes, your calves are useless. Never, ever work them.

    Calves =/ jumping higher, btw.

    Mostly looks, imo but good calves might help if you have to walk up a hill or like 20 flights of stairs. :hs:

    Yep, not working calves makes me lazy. I don't do shrugs either, maybe I should get a pacemaker to keep my lazy ass heart beating.

    Its simple why ask the question, you know the answer. You dont need or want to, there ya go. Delete this stupid thread

    Because I was hoping someone would mention knee stabilization... but it didn't seem to come up amidst all the comedy.

    A pic isn't necessary. The only thing I need is to get stronger and faster, whatever aesthetic qualities come with that are just icing on the cake.

    no, i suggest having them surgically removed. then you'll be able to jump even higher with all that dead weight gone. while you're at it ask the doctor for the calves and traps combo removal. a shrug just means you don't know wtf you're talking about and you don't want to look stupid do you?

    Only if they're out of proportion to their upper body. I have big thighs and small calves, laugh at me.

    If I didn't need my traps for deadlifts or my calves for shooting, you'd be on to something.

    the body is a machine. every single part needs to be trained for optimum athletic ability. personally atm i do no direct work for my calves, i get a bit out of squatting/deadlifts/whathave you. but no isolation work.

    a stronger / faster contraction of the calf will result in more force during plantar flexion which plays a part in sprinting/running/jumping in general.

    Big calves actually make you slower, not faster. Elite sprinters don't train them.

    I think calves are supposed to help in stabilizing you during squats or something like that. I just do them when I get bored and feel like doing something that requires little effort
