Before you tell me to read the stickies, I actually used to post back here years ago asking the same thing and followed the advice (eat protein and carbs), which I did, but actually didn't end up gaining any weight.

Reason? I am an endomorph and it is really hard to gain weight. All I can do now is tone my muscles, but have no baseline to reduce from.

    Tips?

endomorph means it easy for you to gain weight. you probably meant ectomorph.

It might be "really hard to gain weight" for you, but it is also "really hard to lose weight" for others. You just gotta suck it up if it's what you really want, and start to chow down.

    this.

Are you counting calories? If you're not - then you're on the wrong track.

Count Calories. If you're not putting on weight, eat more. If you put on weight too quickly, eat less.

I was an "ectomorph" and "couldn't put on weight" either. then i learned how to eat and put on 30lbs in 8 months. Yep, some of it was fat too - but that's because i got impatient and just ate anything.

I used to say the same shit until I started to actually track what I ate during any given day. Eat more, lift more. It's very simple.

I would say eat a shit load of carbs, protein and fat AND exercise. Most weight gaining sites will tell you to eat 5000 calories by shoving snickers down your throat if you have to. You can pull off 4,000 by just eating a ton of pasta but I would definitely recommend exercising. You won't keep as much weight if you sat around and ate, but when I gained 35 pounds just eating shitty carbs and not exercising, I felt like shit. I wasn't nearly defined as I wanted to be and I had lost all my athletic flexibility.

But carbs+massive calories+ little exercising is the key to gaining weight

    You sound like a moron.

Like people said, eat lots of protein, exercise regularly. If you're not gaining, eat more. That "I can't gain weight because I'm an ectomorph" is BS.

Probably because I'm pretty new to this. I do know that eating a shit load of carbs will help you gain weight, and exercising will help cut down the fat gain. If he clean bulks it will take FOREVER to gain weight, if he has the metabolism like I have.

    For me,

    Focusing on eating more
drinking a Cytogainer shake 1x day
    Working out 4x a week

    = 15lbs in 3 months (so far)

Record what you eat, you're probably eating less then you think you are.

What you need to realize is that there's a difference between weight and LBM. What you want to add is LBM. Adding weight will do nothing for your physique or strength.

Fat gain will be determined by how far over your daily calorie requirements you are. Exercise helps reduce how far you are over by burning calories, but will not in itself "reduce fat".

Yes, adding LBM takes time. But "bulking" and "cutting" is like taking two steps forward in 6 months, then 1 step back in 6 months. Slowly adding LBM is like taking 1 step forward in 6 months, then another step forward in 6 months. In the end, doing it slow is better than trying to gain everything at once.

It takes time and there are no shortcuts, deal with it.

Again, metabolism is a crappy excuse. If you're not gaining, eat more. It's literally as simple as that, and if you can't understand it, you minus whale go jump off a bridge or take up something with more immediate rewards.
    Maybe heroin?
