dont most people use a cradle or something to keep it still while shooting/adjusting?

Run the front sight post all the way down, then bring it up to flush.

Run the rear windage knob all the way left while counting the clicks, then right while counting clicks, then divide by 2 and run it that many back to center.

    Then perform your battlesight zero.

I've never used a cradle to sight anything in.. just a support to rest on.

Most rifles are pretty close, out of the box. Just shoot it first. If you see it hitting paper, just keep shooting. Dont bother "sighting" it in just yet. Let the barrel " break-in". Something about the chromeline getting polished :dunno:.

Anyways, after about 200rds or so, go ahead and sight it in. By now, you should be able to tell where you're hitting and adjust accordly.
