SMS is used by cellular phones for text messaging, and MOM is who supplied the X chromosome to you.

    Umm, yeah.

Any serious answers? We use SMS but I'm interested in learning more about MOM.

MOM is for monitoring and reporting. Sends alerts when x counter exceeds y condition and such. It monitors WMI interfaces, perfmon counters, event logs, etc. MS had an interface demo here: http://www.microsoft.com/seminar/shared/asp/view.asp?url=/seminar/en/20040617tnt1-112d3/manifest.xml

Might give you a better idea. It's very useful but you need to really have an organized plan for deploying it, otherwise it will just flood you with alerts you don't care about.
