whats the difference between a DS3 and an OC3

    both are 45 mbps, right?

    OC3 is 155mbps. There are signaling differences too I think. Balzz/RJV would know the details.

    cool thanks. i thought ds3 (t3) was fiber optics as well?

    Doesn't HAVE to be... at least not the direct connection or the backbone.

    Chances are it may be, but isn't required. It could be coax, copper, or fiber..

    Here are some speeds to note:

    Electrical IEF interface options:
    DS1 (1.544 Mbps), Specials only
    DS3 (44.736 Mbps)
    STS1 (51.84 Mbps)

    The optical IEF interface options are:
    OC3 (155.52 Mbps)
    OC12 (622.08 Mbps)
    OC48 midspan high speed (2.488 Gbps)
