The Canon one is like $380 even at Amazon.

I found several others at amazon and gadgetinfinity.com, but none of them really stand out.

and I get the feeling that all of them claiming 100 meter ranges are lying to me.

Phottix Wireless Remote. They are like $30-40 on ebay. I have a Nikon but i figure they'd work just as well on a Canon?

the only person that sell the phottix on ebay is HK supplies...and i had no problems buying from them and they have a good rating. Other then that, i don't know any off brands that sell it unless you buy canon branded ones

looks like you can use alienbees, pocket wizards, and radio poppers to trigger the shutter.. that's pretty awesome.. though expensive.

it would be about $140 for alienbees transmitter and receiver and a cable to connect them to a camera. 400ft range. 16 channels. and it doubles for use as a wireless flash

that's tempting.. looks like that or the phottix/cactus are the best ones to consider.

The canon one shouldn't be that much.

I use a pocket wizard. Since I already own three of them (soon to be four) all I needed to get was the trigger cable.

Another vote for the Phottix C8. I have one and it works perfectly. I bought mine from a POTN member who sells them. Shipped the day after I paid for it. His "store" is here:

Edit: he appears to be sold out at the moment.

Oops, just realized that he's sold out on the link I posted. :o He routinely gets new shipments in and then puts them on that site.

I'm not sure how he is on returns, but I'm sure he'd be accommodating if he sent you a bad remote.

Have you tried replacing the batteries?

i suppose that would be a good first step before rebuying one. :o but when i contacted the seller off of ebay, he said it was a known issue with the first batch of the c8's and that i could return it for a new one, but shipping it back to hong kong was going to cost about the same as just buying another one.

ok, for anyone wondering.. this is what I came up with.

I was writing this for someone with a Rebel XT (350D), so all of the camera-specific products/links are for the Rebel versions.
