I want to use tables with fixed width values so I can get all my menu bars and stuff looking exactly how I want them.

What's the best width? A lot of sites I read said 900 pixels is a good width, but that looks too narrow for me.

I'm also trying to avoid that skinny "landing strip" (really narrow but a mile long) format that all the get-rich-quick eBooks and instant millionaire forex daytrading bullshit sales sites have. It looks cheap and I instantly close pages that look like that (altho apparently the work or people wouldn't keep making them).

Seriously 900 pixels wide looks small and skinny (maybe cuz I have a 22" widescreen monitor?) It looks passable on my 17" LCD.

    What should I do?

edit - here are some examples of the "landing strip" sites I'm talking about:

    http://www.surefire-forex-trading.com/

I hate that shit so bad and I associate it with shady bullshit ripoff scams.

960 is arguably the most versatile.

is there anything significant about 960 or 974? Those don't just seem like random numbers people would pic.

    *opens calculator*

    Oooooh, it's 75% of 1280.

I usually do 800, but after this, I might consider 960
