Who's has good luck with a domain grabbing service? How long until I can just go through the normal procedure?

if the domain was somewhat popular, the registrar might hold on to it for a while.

not popular worldwide, but locally would make an excellent addition to my brothel of domains

I've used godaddys backordering service a few times. It does a good job - but if someone else backorders it it'll go to auction and you have to bid it out

If it expired March 7th, then it won't be available until May 26th.

Are you buying an expired domain from Godaddy or was this really a drop catch? What does the creation date show for the domain?

If you're just buying it as an expired domain, Godaddy has to delete it by April 21st to receive their refund for the renewal - so I'd expect the auction to end sometime before then.

Edit: read that as it being in auction for 9 days

Sounds like this wait period is to give the original registrant a chance of renewing it
