    2 hard drives
    CD-RW
    DVD-R
    and 2 IDE channels

Should I have both HD's on one channel and the CD-RW and DVD-R on the other?

didnt xp have a problem if both cd drives are on the same channel u cant burn cd to cd?

but right now i keep both my cd drivers on the same ide (sec), and hdd on another (pri).

reason: easier to keep cables clean.

u can burn faster cd to cd if they are on different ide channels, and even faster if they are on different cards

Why would RAID change anything about your configuration? Either way you look at it, RAID or no RAID, it doesn't change the fact that you have space for 4 drives between your two IDE slots. Just using RAID wouldn't free up one of those IDE slots.

Setup a RAID array of cd rom drives. :eek3:

I would do it like this:

    Channel 1:
    Master: HD1
    Slave: CD1

    Channel 2:
    Master: HD2
    Slave: CD2

If you are burning alot of media from one specific drive to an optical drive put them on seperate channels.

I never heard of that. I'm running XP w/ 3 CD-ROM drives and 2 hard drives.

2 hard drives on IDE 1 and 2 CD-ROMS on IDE2 and one SCSI CD-ROM.

I can burn CD's either which way I want/need to witout any problems...

    Your setup is fine...

I'd agree with Rob, one HD and one burner on each channel. Reason being, like CyberBullets said, having both optical drives on one channel causes problems burning from cd-to-cd on-the-fly.

some mobos have "issues" with putting them in "any" order.

it took all the wrong combinations before my biostar would finally get it right:

    IDE1:
    master: HD
    slave: HD

    IDE2:
    master: CD-RW
    slave: 52xDVD

result: only the CD-RW and the master HD were detected

    IDE1:
    master: HD
    slave: 52xDVD

    IDE2:
    master: CD-RW
    slave: HD

result: it dected both HDs, but none of my CD/DVD drives

    IDE1:
    master: HD
    slave: CD-RW

    IDE2:
    master: HD
    slave: 52xDVD

Result: dected all of mydrives properly.
