Valentine V1 is byfar the best. Although this is an age old argument. I use an Escort 8500. Prolly second best. But I couldn't see spending 400 on a radar detector when I could get an 8500 for at least half. Range and false reports are about the same but the V1 shows directional detection. I'm sure others will have differeing opinions.

I wouldn't spend less than $200 on a detector though. Would cost more to spend less. You'll make your money back the first time it saves you from a ticket...

I've been happy with my Bel Vector 940. I spent about $200 on it when it came out. I've always been happy with the Bel radar detectors I have owned over the years

    Cool thanks guys...

So it really is the more you spend the better to some extent...you're not just paying extra for a brand name with detectors?

It is pretty much a toss-up between the V1 and the 8500 for best radar detector.
Trips down to Galveston will prove this, as my V1 picks up K band before my friends 8500 does, and we get Ka at about the same time.

So I just bought a Escort 8500 online. The ad says that they accept credit card via VERIFIED PAYPAL.

All fine and dandy, hit the buy it now button and about to pay via credit card when I go to the screen to change funding from my bank account to my credit card, its says Seller is not accepting payment via Credit Card transaction at this time.

One of the reasons I chose to buy it from him is, he says so long as the order is in by 6PM, he does same day shipping, @ 2 Day AIR, which means if I get my payment in, I can have my radar by Wednesday. Which is very important beacuse I have a trip to make on Wednesday night.

Am I obligated to this auction? I dont have enough money in my bank account right now to allocate to this, I just paid rent. I could afford my credit card bill when the time comes.

Can I buy from another auction, and assume that this transaction is null/void beacuse he said he accepts credit card when he doesn't?

Bang for the buck would be almost anything made by Bel-Tronics. It works damn near as good as my dad's V1 and cost less than half.

The Solo 2 is alright. I would only get one if you must have cordless... The biggest problem is that it goes to suspend and shuts down if there is no activity for an extended period of time. You have to keep watching to make sure it still on. Also it eats up batteries... There is a Power Cord available but if you were going to get a cord, why not get a better detector...

The Escort SR series was nice. They had a SR1, SR7, and SRX. Had detection modules that were installed in the front and rear bumpers. Had a small display that was mounted in your instrument cluster and the audio could be wired into you stereo. BUT, they discontinued those models. You can still pick them up on E-Bay for around 500-700....

I have Passport 8500s in both cars and have been quite happy with them. No tickets in almost 4 years, including some pretty decent road trips.

I recommend http://www.speedzones.com/ for radar detector reviews . I have a V1. It's really great, and the directional arrows really help out.
