I am leaning towards foobar2k but I do not know how to set it up properly. IF anyone could help me, then I would greatly appreciate it. :)

    uck, foobar is really shitty.

Go find an OLD copy of winamp 2.91. Best version in the whole series, imo.

It is possible to DL the new version of Winamp, and then refuse to install the extra features that so many people here don't like. The big one to avoid is Modern Skins, though. Most of them are cheesy anyway, whereas the old skins were artwork.

5 is still a bloated POS. There is a reason why we suggest the 2.9x series. 5 was a complete re-write by AOL, as was the POS 3. 2.9x is pre-aol destruction.

3.0 was a disaster, I agree. I thought they pulled the boys from Nullsoft back in to make 5.0 work, though.

sure, but it was written off of the 3.x codebase.

    2.91 was pure.

Meh. It doesn't really bother me if 5.0 is based on 3.0 as long as they fixed 3.0's logical flaws. I've never noticed any slowdown from inefficient code, if there is any left nowadays. (though I'm sure there is, what with the ultra-high-level programming languages we use now.)

The medium has to be configured for streaming.

Before I switched to Firefox, I could go in IE 6.0 and click a link and it would download it while playing it in WMP.

Could be an issue with Firefox not being integrated into Windows XP's central-hive-mind.

I have used Quintessential and loved it. Its a media player, so it'll play videos too (tho not as well as VLC). I would suggest trying out Quintessential, even if you figured out how to get an old version of Winamp 2.9x (which i also think was the last good version).
