Do a basic routine stressing compound movements and drop volume if need be.

ok for example on my shoulder day.

    DB military press 3 sets of 10, 8, 8.

    Shrugs 3 sets of 15, 12, 10.

front delt db raises 3 sets of 10, 8, 8.

    side delt raises 3 sets of 10, 8, 8.

    keep it basic like that?

Personally I like to keep reps between 5-8.

Also, I probably wouldn't give shoulders their own day. But I like to work out muscle groups more than 1x per week.

Diet is what matters. I've done pretty much the same routine for the past year and a half. For 6 months i didn't lose a single p ound of fat because my diet sucked. I fixed my diet, and now i've lost a shit-ton of weight.

Not one that goes back very far heh.

I'm doing Westside for Skinny Bastards at the moment though. It's flexible as to what you can do with it. I'm trying to bulk, however.

You aren't going to add muscle while cutting unless you're a noob or on roids. Your routine is there, primarily, to tell your body to hold onto its muscle mass. Yeah it'll burn calories, but if your diet isn't in line you won't see any progress.

Christopher's routine will work for cutting.

so i went to my gym today and talked to a personal trainer.

i said that i'm trying to burn fat and minimize strength loss and he said "oh that won't be a problem, you're going to gain muscle and lose fat as well. hoping to get 5% off you [i'm 19%] by summer and add some inches to your chest and legs."

:ugh: :ugh: :ugh: this goes against everything i've learned.
