That's correct, treat every firearm as if it's loaded. A friend had to learn that the hard way.

So I went over to a friends house to have some fun. Another buddy and his wife came over, he had just bought himself a 1911 and his wife a 357 revolver. As we're about to finish up, I start putting all my things back in my bag and my friend and I hear her shoot the revolver. She says something like, "Oh my god." so we turn to look at her. She's handing the revolver to her husband and we see a little bit of blood on her hand. They start walking up to the house. My friend and I figured she somehow cut her hand on the wheel or the hammer caught it. Nope, we get up to the house to find out she shot herself in the finger. Luckily, it just grazed it vs. blowing it off. Don't know what the fuck she was thinking. She's been around guns and used them enough that she should know shit like this.

WARNING - Bloody finger pics below!!

we were all saying that for the rest of the day.

She took it pretty well though. She didn't cry or scream at all for the 30 or so mins afterwards before leaving for the ER. She doesn't have insurance either.

She did however throw up the next morning from the pain

Sucks that she has to learn the hard way. Could have been a lot worse though.

just showed my 8-year old the pics to drive home the message (I figured it was mild enough for an 8YO). You can tell her thanks for teaching my daughter a lesson :)

I've had worse, and from far less deadly things than guns. Apparently steel doors can be pretty dangerous when you are in 8th grade :uh:

  15. Not everyone was raised around guns. Yeah she should have been more careful but I wouldn't call her stupid.

She is definitely lucky. And now she can say shes been shot before

    So much for the manacure....

That's going to leave a mark...

Where did the stray bullet land? Hopefully not the cradle of the neighbors baby across the street.

Hm, I've always liked the Four Rules of Gun Handling, courtesy The other side of Kim:

I think Rule II should be Rule Zero since it sums up everything. It's sort of like poetry in the sense that a short string of words induces far more meaning in an understanding mind than the words themselves contain. The other rules are mere details and corrollaries.

Think that I, too, will be showing the kids this one tonight. We're on the verge of having some additional weaponry around the house, and although they've been raised around firearms, and have always been safe with them, it never hurts to make sure they really get the point.

Well, OK, it doesn't hurt THEM. Obviously, it hurt one person.

She's going to have an indentation in the tip of her finger from now on. I have no idea how she was holding it. Only thing I can think of is she was holding on to the barrel with her left hand. It was cold out that day, maybe she was holding the barrel because it was warm. I've done that before, but never had my hand near the muzzle, or the trigger for that matter.

I would have said "Keep your motherfucking booger hook off the bang switch."

Seems like it would have worked equally well. Hope she's ok, though.
