is it really horribly underpowered? i always wondered..

cuz the car looks pretty good, has a 100k mile warranty, and a half way decent interior, and is inexpencive as hell..

I heard the V6 is not much faster than the 4 cylinder. And it got heavy.

I agree with you. I think the car looks better than just about everything in its class, and better than a few in some other classes as well. I heard that the ride is a little harsh and the engine is still a little underpowered. However, if you want a car that looks nice, is still pretty fun, and don't mind the fact that it isn't the fastest thing out there, and you would like to save some money and not spend too much, then I say check it out.

It's too heavy given the power it has and the suspension strays more toward soft instead of sport. Otherwise it's not too bad for the money. It looks pretty nice, it's more stylish than the econo-cars it shares its price with, and it's decently equipped with extras as well. If Hyundai would put it on a diet, I think it would be a car I'd consider personally. As it stands now, it isn't on my "list", but I can see why others would choose it.

Its actually not bad, but make sure you're covered under that warrenty, cause once you arent and you need repairs you're fucked.

Overall though, if you can get a newer one they're really great for the price. The 1st gens look like ass though.

my friend owns a 2001 tiburon and it's not that bad. the interior is cheap, but what can you expect. it's a thousand times faster then any stock non Si civic though.

It's heavy, handling is shit compared to others in its class, and isn't really fast at all. :hs:

Oh, and then there's the slanted H badging.

If you want something brand new and its in your price range, you're not going to find anything more sport-like than it. And it really isnt all that bad a car. It is underpowered, it is Hyundai, but it is dirt cheap. But if you dont mind getting something only one or two years old there are a dozen other cars out there that I'd chose over the Tiburon.

I'd rather have a Celica or spring for a RSX.

i think 3000lb is not that heavy..

a civic is like 2800lb right? and that is a little shitty econobox..

this is a midsized compact sports coupe..

it makes torque too, which no other car in its class makes :o

the only thing i dont like is the FWD.. if it was rear, i might buy one :o

how is it underpowered? it makes 170hp, a celica gt makes like 180 i think..

the tib makes 181tq, the celica makes like 130..

i dont know how much the celica weighs, but i would be willing to bet the tibby would win a race stock vs stock.

and with a 100k mile warranty, who cares if the thing falls apart, because you can always go get it fixed :o

The Spec V has basically the same horsepower and torque (Spec V: 175/180 Tiburon: 170/181) from its four cylinder, but it weighs around 2,700 lbs instead.

The Celica GT is 2,450 lbs. It's engine makes 140 horsepower and 125 ft-lbs of torque however, so they have very similar power to weight ratios when it comes to horsepower, but the Tiburon does have a torque advantage.
