Got something to eat at the BX Taco Bell yesterday, there was a kid wearing his dads old style BDU jacket, nametag taken off, but USAF tag, and Captain rank still on. Not only that, the kid was walking around with his dad.

It just seemed odd to me that the rank was still on there and I felt like it should have been taken off. Anyone know the reg on that?

You should have approached him saying "good morning _______ " to the kid.

guess we'll do a weekly thread on this issue

it's completely irrelevant what patches, rank, or insignia was on it. if it wasn't a military member wearing it, or someone honestly (or dishonestly i guess) trying to impersonate a military member, it's a non-issue. it's just threads on a piece of cloth.

He can have the branch tape on the uniform, but, he would not be able to go onto a military post with the branch and/or rank attached

I've heard that the way they are allowed to dress in full military uniform in movies is by having just one piece of the uniform in the wrong place, ie. unit patch on the wrong shoulder, rank sewn on too high or low, etc.

As far as the kid wearing rank, I dunno.

The kid was some 14ish year old that after a quick google search looks identicle to this:

What made it worse was that he was obviously living here on base, and his father was with him.
