You can not be stationed in Germany and not find something good to do with your time.
my brother is stationed there.
i love where i am at in germany its 20min away from Frankfurt
There is no such thing as boring in Germany... there's just so much to do, and it's so easy to travel.
I was in Friedburg and it's smaller than Baumholder, yet I didn't find it boring in the least.
I was about 30 minutes north of Frankfurt.
Not that far north... I lived in Friedburg. It's very very small, unless you've been there chances are you haven't heard of it.
Be thankful your not in Belgium. Any duty station in Germany is going to be great IMO. I spent the past 2 weeks at Colman, had to be the biggest shit hole ever but I made the best of it.
babenhausen germany there is absolutely nothing to do there...NOTHING
All you people quit yer whining. Buy a fucking car and drive.
J/K... Kind of...
If memory serves me baumholder is close to Weisbaden and there is a hell of a lot more shit to do there then in K-town. Go to Frankfurt, or Nurnberg, or Stuttgart, or Munich....Or better yet, Slovakia, Poland, or Czech Rep. I agree with nixstress that there is no such thing as boring in Germany. If you are bored then you are fat, ugly, and lazy.
And the German women. . . .
It never fails to piss me off when people get stationed in Europe and complain about nothing to do.
Get a fucking Eurail pass or rent a car with a buddy or two and GO someplace.
Speaking of which... Nothing beats Bratislava, Slovakia in the autumn. You can get meals for under $5.00 (or $3.00 EUR) and beer for about $.50 US.. .not to mention the women there are unbelievable... .and easy
God, I hope I still go to Stuttgart. I haven't heard back from my contact though.
contact your contact
If you don't have a buddy I will volunteer myself
Ever been to North Carolina?
Thats exactly what pisses me off about people saying theres nothing to do in Hawaii. Those are the same people that all they do is drink in the Barracks every free chance they get.
Yeah im currently at Shape. Its all Nato. I have my own reasons for not liking it.
1.Its really not Belgium. Just the city of Mons where SHAPE is at. Anytime I go anywhere else its all good. But I hate having to drive everywhere (sure I could take the train).
2. Yes the roads here in Mons suck ass in a major way. I know I will need new struts before I leave.
3. I miss the sun. It rains here way to much.
4. You know its bad here when I talk to native Germans and they all hate Belgium.
5. I hate the fact that everything shuts down after 1800.
6. And as far a not liking anything cultural I say this, I was born and spent most of my life in Europe. Ive seen most of this stuff more than once. There only so many castles I can see and I hate drinking Chimay.
Back in topic. What is up with all the wives in Baumholder sluting themselves out? Its really sad. I had to go to the dental clinic and at night it was like they lost there minds. Just hanging around hotels and clubs like hookers. Sorry but that shit aint cool at all.
All very good points. I am assuming your Belgian or spent sometime there. The past three days have been beautiful. I actually got to wash my car AND ride my bike. The Germans I spoke to dont hate Belgians they just dont like Belgium. I dont get off work untill 1900 and there somethings you cant get at the night shops. I cant drink most of the Belgian beer. Call me weak if you want. You have to be born to drink that stuff. Its way to thick for me.
I see all your points but what it basicly boils down to is its not what Im used to. Most people dont like change. Living here has been a big change compared to where im from in Atlanta or Orlando. But hey its all good Im slowly warming up to just give me sometime. But you have to admit Germany is better than Belgium.
Unfortunately it's not just in Baumholder and it can happen for any number of reasons...
1. People get married when they learn they will be stationed overseas
2. People marry way to young
3. These women don't know their husbands well and are left alone in a new country when chances are they've never left their home state before.
Is it wrong? Yes, but it will continue to happen because people continue to marry for the wrong reasons.
I have to agree...That has to be one of the worst things hidden things about the military. Especially after reading a post like this http://www.armystudyguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2887 check post #3. If I could do it all over again I wouldve joined single.
The duty station that you're in is as fun as you make it.
