I don't really think I need a 70-200 even though I want one because they're just so sexah. I just want something similar to the 18-55. I am going to pick up a nifty fifty, but want a sharper lens to replace the 18-55, something under $300 if possible.

I'm usually shooting landscape stuff so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think something similar to the kit lens would meet my needs.

    Recommendations?

I scoped those out and the Sigma 17-70 really catches my eye. Any of you fuckers have one?

I'll get that plus a 50 mm f/1.8 II just because it's too cheap to not have one.

the 17-70 says its macro.. does that mean its only a good lens for macro shooting? Can i use that as a normal lens as well? I'm exactly on the same boat as you, i really want to get the 70-200 but i just can't spend the $$ right now.

No, it means it has a close focusing distance so that you can do macro work with it.

yeah, it'll be fine for normal shooting.

it's not really a true macro.

The Sigma EX line is their best line.

The DG means it will work on full frame or digital, the DC means the lens size is smaller and it will only work on digital.

The 24-70 is EX and DG. The 17-70 is neither.

    That's the difference.

Oh, and the 17-70 is out of stock.

Yes many people have on POTN they're a reputable seller...you probably wont find a lens with IS in your budget range.

fuck i jsut need to pull the trigger already, i jsut got done talking to this guy at work who is insane when it comes to photography and he was telling me becareful cuase you'll start getting veneer edeges when you goto the 70mm just cuase the lens has a huge range 17 to 70. He was saying that hes sometimes get it on a 17-35 that he has when he goes to 35.

He's trying to get me to lean towards the 24-60 but the filter size is huge on that and i wont be able to use the lenses that he gave me a while back
