GUN What's a good grouping for shooting a rifle offhand?

Say, at 25 yards and 50 yards with iron sights?

I'm just wondering what I should be seeing (versus what I am seeing :o ).

it's hard to say without knowing how the gun performs, I take it you haven't shot it off a rest? :hs:

Not yet, I was just wondering if there is a baseline "rule of thumb."

I just got a Caldwell Jr. rest and rear bag a couple weeks ago but have not dragged them to the range yet.

If it's a milsurp rifle I'd hope it would print no larger than around 6" at 50yds assuming you have good form but its hard to say :hs:

IIRC I was shooting 5" with the M44, about the same with the 91/30. More flyers with the 91/30 since it's so fucking front-heavy and strangely balanced :o

I haven't done the iron sights with my gun yet. But, these are my targets at 20 yards and 25 yards. Now, keep in mind, this was my 1st and 2nd mag through this gun. :)

I'm not sure what "offhand" means... but that was standing up. The electronic deal that operates the target holder deal was messed up. Normally you enter yards, but it made me enter feet for some reason. Even though I wrote that it was 20 and 25 yards... I believe it was a bit further. It was in an indoor range and about halfway down...

Well, before I got my rifle, the furthest I shot was 30 feet with my old Glock. So, I was happy when I was getting good shots at 20-30 yards.

Fair enough, but I was comparing it to my offhand groups at 200 yards with an M1 Garand which fires .30-06...so there really is no comparison whatsoever.

I'm not saying it's easy, I'm saying those aren't unrealistic groups at that distance. :dunno:
