    If linux-based, i'd use vi or pico. if your looking for a windoze based one try metapad. Textpad is nice, but i dont think its free anymores

    Notepad++ for windows...Free, clean, supports syntax highlighting in 11ty languages, as well as code folding.

    I know you said just an HTML editor, but PHP Designer 2006 and PSPad are good for plain HTML as well. Neither have code folding, but are still decent freeware programs.
