Lifting weights all day isn't the most exciting thing in the world and I'm thinking about doing something that will help build more endurance, functional strength, and be fun as well.

A friend of mine is a karate trainer and she's offered to let me into her classes for free. You can't beat free, but her gym is kind of far away. I've got a muay thai gym in my building and a MMA gym (muay thai + BJJ) down the block though. They're both casual gyms who just brings trainers in though, so nothing hardcore, and kinda expensive too.

Maybe I'll just buy a banana bag and practice wrecking havoc at home instead. :dunno:

go with free karate, then if you really like combat excercising, join the muay thai one. if you like the combo of skills, join mma. and continue with karate cause it's free imo.

muay thai is sick as far as bag work goes... but try sparring with it for a few times and you will feel fucking shitty. Basically, you will get hurt really easily even with protective gear. I hate getting hit in the nose or ribs really hard so I mainly just did bag work and shadow boxing with it for exercise.

If you're just looking to do it for fun I'd look into judo.. throws sound useful and I'm sure they teach you how to land well enough that you don't get too injured in practice. :dunno: ask about this in "The Cage"

Judo is fun, would recommend it. Free karate class is hard to beat tho. I would guess the MMA class would be a harder workout.

BJJ will give you a hell of a workout, especially when you're first starting out.

    Id go with the MMA.

Depending on how strapped for cash you are its worth the extra money.

    and start stretching now.

I'm a muay thai/bjj guy, but I agree with this. If I had to pick one art for someone who doesn't know how to fight to begin with, it'd be boxing.

bro if you're in F&N only the opinions of brolys hold legitimacy even on matters totally unrelated to broliness.
